National Art Schools (Cuba)
Location: Havana, Cuba
Date: 2019
Founded in 1961, after a round of golf between Fidel Castro and Che Guevara, the National Art Schools are a Cuban National Monument and are still operating today. There are five schools; the School of Modern Dance and Plastic Arts designed by Ricardo Porro, the school of Dramatic Arts by Roberto Gottardi, and the School of Ballet and music by Vittorio Garatti. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the schools, Caroline Maxwell, Ken Farmer, and Felipe Dulzaides developed an interdisciplinary art and music festival to celebrate the history and future of the schools. The proposal aimed to create a platform for students to develop new interdisciplinary projects that would be projected on the ceiling of each dome. The project has been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
