The images in the Nine Kims series are all screen shots of Instagram photos. They consist of two layers, one being an image from Kim Kardashian's account ( the #1 followed person on Instagram ) as well as different covers of Time Magazine. This works conjures up the notion of the icon and the celebrity as a sort of heroic figure. Much in the way Marilyn Monroe was depicted in the 1970’s. Kim Kardashian is thought of in a similar light today. By placing the ghostly image of Kim onto of Time magazine covers the artist hopes to bring into light the mass of attention that a person can draw with an excellent branding strategy. And how that can be used to bring attention to larger issues to a demographic that wouldn't typically be concerned with issues mentioned on the cover of Time. Instagram is particularly interesting to the artist because much like the magazine was the primary source of visual information in the 70’s- Instagram is that for us today. It’s constant flow of visual information that we often don't pause to question.
