Endangered Rainforest Rescue: The Darién Gap
Developed and directed by Caroline Maxwell, this campaign spotlighted Endangered Rainforest Rescue—a women and Indigenous-led non-profit working to safeguard one of the planet’s last remaining jaguar corridors in Panama’s Darién Gap. This corridor is the only ecological bridge linking North and South America, a vital and timeless thread through which species, seeds, and cultures have moved for millennia. Today, it faces urgent threats from unregulated deforestation, cattle ranching, and extractive industries, endangering both biodiversity and Indigenous lifeways.
By introducing the project to Christie’s and leading both the media strategy and film direction, Maxwell harnessed the power of the art market to drive urgent conservation action.
Filmed between New York and Panama, the piece interwove Alexandra Climent’s field research and canopy encounters with science-driven context on biodiversity loss, corridor fragmentation, and the Indigenous communities working to safeguard these ecosystems.
The media campaign and auction raised $80,000—demonstrating how art and conservation can intersect to deliver tangible, lasting impact for one of the world’s most irreplaceable ecosystems.
